In this tutorial, I will
explaining all the processes involved in production of air freshener in such a
way that you will be able to produce it yourself at your home. I will try as
much as possible to make this tutorial quite simple to understand and very
informative, and I hope by the time you are through with reading this tutorial,
after which you might have followed all the steps provided, you would have
little or no problems with taking that bold step and venturing into life as a producer
of air freshener.
Air fresheners are no
new thing in today’s world, they are being used in living rooms, offices,
toilets and so on.
If you are able to
produce a good air freshener, the kind of air freshener that suits the taste of
its users, then you can start thinking of going into large production of air
freshener. Before venturing into this though, you have to give something
important a close consideration- user’s taste. You need to give a close
attention to the kind of air freshener people will like. There are some things
you have to think about, consider the following points:
1.
Perfume /Fragrance: Consider entering a room or an office
stormed with a thick choking perfume, how will you feel? That will not be very
nice you know. As a result of this, you have to make sure the perfume of the
air freshener you are producing is not too strong. Another thing you have to
think about in your choice of perfume is the fragrance it produces, the
fragrance should be fresh and nice, it should be the kind that will be
irresistible for both male and female.
2.
Coupling And Packaging: When thinking about the kind of
appearance you want to give your product, you have to remember that there are
lots of air freshener in the market of which they have varieties of attractive
appearance. Your packaging should be that kind that will be new in the market,
one that will surely capture the attention of buyers. There is this saying that
“first impression last longer”, this
may be so in the case of packaging your air freshener, always remember that
people will never forget what they see so make sure your air freshener carries
an attractive appearance. There are some tips you might want to consider when
considering the kind of packaging you are choosing, they are:
Where is the product
meant to be used? Will it be just for offices? Will it be just for toilets or
can it used in cars or homes? All these have great effect on how you are to
package your product.
3. The Price: Another factor
you have to consider is the price you are going to sell your product. You don’t
want to sell below the cost of production but at the same time you don’t want
to chase people away with your huge price. So give a close consideration to the
price you are going to sell your product. To do this you can do a survey on the
current price of air freshener around you, make their prices your own
benchmark, try as much as possible to place your price either below theirs or
the same with others. Your price depends a lot on how much you injected into
the production. Who are you selling to? The general public? Or do you have a
target market? Maybe people that won’t mind paying a lot of money to get the
best? All these matters a lot.
Procedure Involved In Producing Air Freshener.
Before going into this
part, you should keep something at the back of your mind-there are two types of
air fresheners, the first kind is liquid, and the second kind is gel. Gel is the most commercially made kind,
while liquid is usually homemade for
personal use.
What You Will Need
To make gel air
fresheners, you are going to need the following:
Ø Four
packages of unflavoured gelatin
Ø Salt
(About 1 table spoon)
Ø Food
colouring of any kind
Ø Water
(2 cups)
Ø Essential
oil
Ø A
little alcohol like vodka
Ø Other
things you will need include basic kitchen equipment like whisk, spoons, a pan
large enough, and some jars or wide bottles. You must find better packaging
when you are ready to sell.
Procedure
Step
1:
The first thing you are to do is to put your pan or pot on fire and then pour 1
cup of water into it. Then you will allow it to boil till you are satisfied.
Step
2:
The next thing is to add the packs of gelatin you have gotten into the boiling
water and start stirring until everything is fully dissolved.
Step
3:
Now you have to bring down the pot from the fire and continue stirring while
adding the second cup of water into it. After this is done, leave it till it
cools down.
Step
4:
Get the jar or wide bottle container and put 1 table spoon of salt into it.
After this, add some drops of essential oil, depending on how strong you want
the eventual scent to be. About 10 to 20 drops is usually sufficient. Note that
salt is an inhibitor, so is alcohol. So you have to pick which of them you
prefer to use. Vodka can be your alcohol. If you choose to use alcohol, you
just need a few drops too. When adding coloring just add little drops into your
mixture, then stir everything for a while. Note that you are doing this while
your first mixture cools down.
Step
5:
Now it is time to marry the two mixtures. Turn the content of the pan or pot
into your jar and stir. Note that you are not going to wait for the pan mixture
to get completely cold. Warm is okay. Now you are almost done.
Step
6:
For fragrance and scent, you could use lemon or levander or whatever scent you
like. Mix your perfume with the mixture you have now and stir very well.
If you are one of those
that prefer the liquid type, the process involved is quite less difficult so be
sure that you can do it, all you have to do is pay attention as you read the
procedures involved in the production.
What You Will Need
1. Caustic soda
2. Perfume
3. Formalin
4. Water
5. Sulphonic Acid
6. Soda Ash
7. Colorant of your
choice
Procedure
Step
1.
To begin, find a container, advisably plastic, and pour 4 litres of water.
Step 2. Add a spoon of caustic soda and
stir till the caustic soda dissolves.
Step
3.
Add half a spoon of sulphonic acid and stir rigorously. At this point, you
would want to check that the PH of the solution is about 7 or 8, or at least
not too far from this.
Step
4.The next thing is to add your formalin
and colorant into the mixture and stir gently. Now you can add your perfume.
The quantity largely depends on you.
